Warriors Team Up With Clorox To Clean Up The Classroom
September 17, 2012
In partnership with The Clorox Company, the Warriors hosted Clean Up The Classroom and Backpack Giveaway at Garfield Elemantry School in Oakland on Monday, September 17.
The Backpack Giveaway tipped off the Warriors Back to School in the Bay: 5 Schools in 5 Days initiative, a week-long event in which various members of Warriors personnel, players, and coaches reach out to the community and help raise awareness about the importance of education.
At the Backpack Giveaway, the Warriors distributed backpacks to all 582 students and Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to every teacher at Garfield Elementary School in Oakland.
Representing the Warriors at the Giveaway were guard Stephen Curry…
…Assistant Coach Darren Erman…
…and Assistant Coach Kris Weems.
Garfield Elementary Principal Nima Tahai talked to the students about the importance of working hard and practicing with education and school work similar to what Warrior players do to prepare for games.
Rita Gorenberg , the Clorox Health and Wellness representative, discussed the Clorox Canisters for Classrooms program, which offers some helpful tips for teachers fighting germs in the classroom:
Sing & Scrub: Make sure kids wash their hands the right way. They should wash frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds (the time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice).
Do the Elbow Cough: Teach kids to cough into elbows, not hands, where they are more likely to spread bacteria and viruses through touch.
Disinfect Hot Spots: Be sure to disinfect the surfaces kids touch most frequently in the classroom – like desks, computer mice and doorknobs. Use a disinfectant approved to help kill cold and flu viruses, like Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.
The Warriors assistant coaches welcomed the students back to school and wished them luck in the upcoming year.
Stephen Curry then addressed the students to let them know they would all be receiving new backpacks and that their teachers would all be receiving Clorox Disinfecting Wipe Canisters to help keep their classrooms healthier and stop the spread of germs.
All second, third and fourth grade students received their very own Warriors backpack.
Afterwards, Curry and the Warriors coaches visited different classrooms to give backpacks to all of the fifth-grade students.
In addition to the backpacks, they also distributed Disinfecting Wipes to the teachers and discussed the importance of healthy habits to stop the spread of germs.
They also looked over the curriculum with some of the students, and encouraged them to study frequently.
The Warriors ended their classroom visits with memorable class photos.
The Warriors had a great time at the Clean Up the Classroom & Backpack Giveaway event, and were more than happy to provide the Garfield Elementary students with new backpacks and materials to tip off the new school year.
The Warriors would like to especially thank the Clorox Company for their long history of helping kids succeed in and out of the classroom by providing school grants and helping keep classrooms cleaner and healthier. To learn more about Clorox’s commitment to schools, please visit www.Clorox.com.
