Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry
(On the loss)
"I think it’s very similar to what happened in Denver. We’ve got to do a better job finishing games, especially on the road. We play hard and we put ourselves in a position to have an opportunity to win a game, and you just have to finish it. We’re in the bonus with almost nine minutes to go in the quarter and we’ve got to get some shots going to the basket, and try to get to the line. We’ve just got to do a better job."
(On defending Rudy Gay)
"There’s a reason they’re paying the guy the maximum salary. He’s a pretty good damn player, so I didn’t think that’s what hurt us. We can survive Rudy getting 32 points, but we can’t survive the second shots and giving up having a good defensive possession where we then give up an offensive rebound where we have to play another possession. To me, the rebounding part of it is where the game was won. If you look at the stat sheet, they get 16 offensive rebounds for 20 points or something like that. That can’t be the case."
Suns Guard Sebastian Telfair
(On his career)
"I will be going into my ninth season next year, and I want to be in the role where I can get out there and win some games and possibly play for the gold. I want to play and be part of winning. When you are a competitor, you want to be out there helping your team win, even if you don’t get the gold at the end of the year."
(On the Suns' coaching staff)
"This whole coaching staff has helped. They prepare us for the games. The things I am doing on the off days to better myself I get my shots up, watch film every day and play behind Steve (Nash) . Playing behind Nash, I have learned my role, and I respect playing behind the two-time MVP. So I am not worried about starting and all that, I am worried about doing my part in helping the team."
Suns Forward Josh Childress
(On the game)
"We lost every fifty-fifty ball. Coach doesn’t believe in bad bounces but things just weren’t going our way. At the end of the game, we put ourselves into position, and we have to finish. My teammates made some great passes out there. We were able to get into the lane, but we have to find that rhythm to be more cohesive will be big."
(On the standings)
"Utah beating Houston set us back a little bit, but more importantly than that we have to focus on getting every win possible, and not focus on the standings until the season is over. We can’t be playing for that seed we have to be playing for every win."
Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins
(On the Suns' second unit)
"The reality was Channing Frye didn’t have a good game and they went with Markieff Morris. Everybody else played their normal minutes but sometimes you have to roll when you are behind and get back without expanding into the starters. Sometimes you just go to the bench and say “ok let’s see if we can get back with those guys” and they kept it close, eventually the starters came back but the margins stayed the same."
(On the second half)
"Our defense was much better in the second half. Our activity, being in the paint, being up on the pick and roll was much better and they were up shooting 36 percent in the second half and that was great defense. You have to give Phoenix kudos, they are scratching and clawing to get into that last playoff spot and they came in ready to play."
Grizzlies Guard Rudy Gay
(On scoring 32 points)
"I just try to make the best plays possible to help the team, no matter what. Trying to stay within our offense and get what I can out of it."
(On the playoffs)
"It’s getting down to the wire. Everybody is fighting for position. It’s fun that everybody is playing for something. It’s one of those seasons where no matter from here until the playoffs, it’s going to be like a playoff game."
Grizzlies Forward Zach Randolph
(On the game)
"It’s all about winning. As long as we win, that’s all that matters. It was real important for us. Crash the boards to get rebounds and try to get in and get put-backs and second chances."
(On coming back from injury)
"I feel like I’m getting there. Just trying to do stuff after the games and when we practice, do extra conditioning."
