Spurs Local TV Ratings Up 33 Percent
SAN ANTONIO - Through nearly a third of the season, San Antonio Spurs combined broadcast ratings on FOX Sports Southwest and KENS-TV (CBS 5) are up 33 percent this year, averaging an 8 rating according to Nielsen household ratings in the San Antonio market. The first of two Spurs broadcasts on KMYS-TV (CW 35) this season will tip off when the Spurs host the Houston Rockets on Christmas Day, as part of the NBA’s annual holiday lineup.
Through 20 games on FOX Sports Southwest, Spurs games have averaged a 7.3 rating, up 28 percent after the same period last year. After five games, Spurs games broadcast on KENS-TV are up 48 percent, averaging a 10.9 rating (each rating point represents approximately 9,100 viewers).
Ratings for Spurs games have historically increased after December and through the end of the season. The Spurs hit the road for the annual rodeo road trip and begin a nine-game away stretch on Monday, Feb. 3 at the New Orleans Pelicans. The Silver and Black will get their first shot at the defending NBA champion Miami Heat on Sunday, Jan. 26 at Miami. The Spurs will then host the Heat at the AT&T Center on Thursday, March 6.
