The San Antonio Spurs, the 10th overall seed in the 2013 NBA Summer League Tournament, overcame a sluggish start to defeat the 9th seeded Milwaukee Bucks 90-80 in an afternoon contest at the Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. San Antonio was fueled by Hollis Thompson who scored a game-high 21 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the floor, including two-of-two from three point territory.
The Bucks jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the game's first two minutes, but the Spurs kept their composure, battling back to tie the game at 15 with just under four minutes left in the frame. San Antonio shot 50-percent from the floor in the first, including three-of-three from behind the arc. Milwaukee hung on to a one point lead, 24-23, at the end of one.
San Antonio charged back in the second quarter, leading by as many as seven. But Milwaukee answered back, keeping the game close as the teams knotted in four ties, trading the lead five times. San Antonio's hot hand from deep continued, as the team connected in three more long balls. Milwaukee didn't have the stroke from deep, though, they shot only four-of-15 from three point land.
The Spurs stretched their lead to as many as 10 in the third quarter on the back of Ryan Richards' seven points in the period. San Antonio got 12 points from Richards and Durand Scott in the fourth period, helping the team to hold on to the ten-point victory.
Milwaukee's Nate Wolters scored a team-high 20 points, while John Shurna chipped in with 14 in the loss.
