DeEtte Kercher was named this year’s “Jazz Player for a Day” in a contest which granted the winner a V.I.P. game night with a behind the scenes look at the Utah Jazz. The contest drew over 2,000 entries from Burt Brothers Tires stores around the Salt Lake area starting in February, and ended with a drawing in March naming the winner. DeEtte and her son, Bryan, began their night in style arriving at the Energy Solutions Arena in a stretch limousine where they were greeted by Jazz player Ronnie Price. Along with a tour of the team’s locker room and a special dinner for two in the Utah Jazz Sports Club, DeEtte and Bryan met one-on-one with coach Jerry Sloan, general manager Kevin O’Connor and Jazz legend Thurl “Big T” Bailey.
After signing a one-night Jazz player contract and being presented with an autographed jersey, Bryan was invited onto the court where he rubbed shoulders with Jazz players and sat on the bench with Ronnie Price, Jason Hart and Morris Almond during the pre-game shootaround. Bryan then joined his mother in lower-bowl seats provided for them to enjoy the game sitting with Wendel and Ron Burt, owners of Burt Brothers Tires. DeEtte closed out the night with a Jazz victory, a limo ride home with her son, and unforgettable memories as “Jazz Player for a Day.”
