Derrick Favors / Right Hip Strain
Derrick participated in shootaround and will be a game-time decision tonight vs. Boston.
A hip abductor strain occurs from overstretching or overuse and causes tearing in the muscle fibers resulting in a strain. Muscle strains are generally treated conservatively with rest, ice and compression. Recovery time can vary depending on severity of the injury and can take as little as a couple of weeks to several weeks for return to full activity. Regaining full range of motion, flexibility and strength prior to returning to sport or activity will help to ensure a full recovery. Follow-up with a physician if the pain limits your ability to bear weight or walk, there is numbness or tingling, you cannot move the leg, or you notice increased swelling with muscle or bone deformity.
A sports injury—whether it’s a sprained ankle or torn ACL—can derail you from the activities you enjoy and need for a healthy life. Learn more about rehabilitation, training and treatment from the specialists at University of Utah Health Care Sports Medicine.
