The red-hot runs of Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks are set for a major challenge - a visit to Oklahoma City.

Anthony squares off with the only player ahead of him in the scoring race as his Knicks, riding the third-longest winning streak in franchise history, look to make a big statement Sunday against Kevin Durant and the Thunder.

While Oklahoma City is battling San Antonio for the Western Conference's top seed, New York (49-26) is second in the East and on the verge of clinching the Atlantic Division thanks to its 11-game win streak. It's the team's longest since winning 15 straight from March 1-April 2, 1994.

The latest victory, 101-83 over Milwaukee on Friday, came on the night the Knicks honored the 40th anniversary of their last championship.

Anthony is certainly playing like he's ready to lead New York to its first title since 1972-73. He finished with 41 points Friday to tie a team record with his third straight game of at least 40. He's averaging 43.7 points during that stretch while shooting 64.2 percent, including 11 for 19 from 3-point range.

"It's April, I guess. It's April. It's time to go," Anthony said.

The All-Star forward has increased his scoring average to 28.3 points, right behind Durant's 28.4. If Durant fails to crack 30 points Sunday, Anthony would move past him into the league lead with another 40-plus effort.

"Can't say enough, he's been special for us," Woodson said of Anthony, who also had 14 rebounds Friday.

Durant, though, did recently tell the NBA's official website that he doesn't care if he misses out on a fourth consecutive scoring title to Anthony.

"He can have it," Durant said. "... I mean the stuff he's doing right now, every time he touches the ball it looks like it's going to go in. He's having a nice run right now and his confidence is high. I'm sure he's going to take over. If it happens, cool."

What would not be cool by Durant is seeing a win by the Knicks, who have lost their last five visits to Oklahoma City and nine of 11 overall in this series.

The Thunder have lost only once - to Denver - in 11 home games since the All-Star break. That stretch includes a victory over the Spurs on Thursday, and they went to Indiana the next night and routed the Central Division-leading Pacers 97-75.

Oklahoma City has won three straight and six of seven.

"We've been building this thing for the last few weeks and it's starting to look good, so we gotta keep it up," said Durant, who had 34 points Friday despite a bruised left calf.

A victory by the Knicks on Sunday would easily be their most impressive of the win streak. They did beat league-best Miami on Tuesday, but the Heat played without LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. No other win during the run has come against a division leader.

"It's that time of the season where we gotta pick it up," Anthony said. "I felt like I needed to pick my game up and do what I have to do."

Anthony missed these teams' first meeting March 7 in New York due to a knee problem, and the Thunder escaped with a 95-94 victory behind Durant's 34 points.

J.R. Smith scored 36 in that game, hitting six 3-pointers, but missed a jumper in the final seconds. Smith had yet another 30-point night Friday, his fourth in seven contests.

New York has averaged 104.4 points and 49.1 percent shooting over its last eight games, but will be facing an Oklahoma City team which has held its last six opponents to averages of 87.7 and 38.7.

The Thunder, scoring 108.8 points at home to rank near the top of the league, will try to solve a Knicks team that's surrendered 86.0 per game in its last four.

Oklahoma City third-leading scorer Kevin Martin (14.0 ppg) has failed to reach double figures in three of the past four games, but he keyed the win over the Knicks with 16 points and has averaged 26.6 in his last eight against them.

Russell Westbrook was 8 of 22 from the field for 21 points in last month's meeting. His shot remains a bit off, as he's hit 39.7 percent over the past three games, but in that span he has averaged 24.7 points, 8.7 assists and 9.0 rebounds.

"We've matured as a team," Westbrook said. "We're doing a good job of playing together at the right time."

Knicks win 12th straight, 125-120 over Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Driving to the basket in crunch time, Raymond Felton slipped to the floor and lost the basketball in the process. All he could do was lunge back at it and bat it toward J.R. Smith as the shot clock ticked closer to zero.

For the second straight possession, Smith beat the buzzer - this time with a 3-pointer - and the Knicks closed out a 125-120 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.

"He makes plays like that. He makes tough shots. Sometimes I think he likes to take the tougher shot than the easier shot. They still go in," said teammate Carmelo Anthony, who had 36 points and 12 rebounds while moving ahead of Kevin Durant to become the NBA's top scorer.

"That shot, it was a nail in the coffin."

Smith finished with 22 points, including the two biggest shots of the game. He connected on a 23-foot jumper from the right wing as the 24-second clock expired to put New York up 117-113 with 1:30 to play, then swished a 3-pointer with 56.8 seconds left that all but sealed New York's 50th win of the season.

"It was just a freak accident, a great play," Felton said. "I slipped, knocked the ball to him and he did the rest. He knocked down the big shot."

The victory was the Knicks' 12th in a row and put them at 50 wins for the first time in 13 years. They also moved 2 1/2 games ahead of Indiana for second place in the Eastern Conference and moved onto the doorstep of clinching the Atlantic Division title.

Russell Westbrook had 37 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for Oklahoma City, which fell a game behind San Antonio for first place in the West with five games left.

The Thunder had gained control of the race for first by beating the Spurs but were unable to complete a three-game sweep of San Antonio, Indiana and New York in a less than 72-hour span.

"We're good. We've got five more games to go," said Durant, who scored 27. "We lost a tough one. This team, they shot the ball well tonight. They hit some tough shots all night. We forced them to shoot some tough ones and they hit them.

"You've got to tip your hat to them, but other than that, what's the need to panic for? We're good."

Anthony's scoring average improved one-tenth of a point to 28.44, while Durant's stayed about the same at 28.35.

"I try not to think about that," Anthony said. "I just go out there and play ball."

Anthony, playing at Oklahoma City for the first time since April 2010, added to one of the more colorful histories of any visiting player despite failing to extend his run of 40-point games to four. He tied Bernard King's Knicks record with three in a row, going for 50, 40 and 41 in his previous three games.

Anthony hit game-winners in the closing seconds of Denver's only two games at Oklahoma City in 2009, then was knocked unconscious in the third quarter before returning in the fourth as the Nuggets rallied to win the 2010 game.

He had missed his final chance with the Nuggets after his sister's death and then sat out last season's meeting because of wrist and ankle injuries.

This time, he came up with a season-high nine offensive rebounds as the Knicks amassed 23 points off of 19 offensive boards. Anthony's last three baskets came on tip-ins. He twice put back his own misses, then tipped in Smith's missed free throw in the final minute to help close it out.

"This is probably one of the biggest wins we've had in a long time," Anthony said. "Just for the simple fact that it's on the road, it's against a great Thunder team. We've been playing well. For us to come out here and keep our composure and win on the road and win here - this is a tough place to win."

It was just the sixth home loss for the Thunder, who snapped a string of 21 straight games at Chesapeake Energy Arena that had been decided by double digits - 18 wins, three losses.

New York had a season high in scoring and the most points of any Thunder opponent this season, getting 16 from Felton, 15 from Tyson Chandler 14 from Jason Kidd and 13 from Chris Copeland.

"They're hot," Durant said. "Carmelo was hitting shots over Serge (Ibaka) with a hand in his face, he was meeting him at the rim. He was missing, but he was getting those tips, and they were hitting 3s. ... We were down two and J.R. Smith hit two tough jump shots in a row. I think our defense was good, as far as putting a hand up."

Oklahoma City trailed by 12 early in the second half and 98-89 after Chandler's two-handed slam to start the fourth quarter before rallying back. Durant's jumper in the lane with 6:57 remaining put the Thunder up 105-104, but he did not score again.

Anthony's relentlessness on the boards paid off. He twice stretched one-point leads with tip-ins of his own misses before Smith finally provided a bigger cushion. On one of the offensive rebounds, Anthony chipped one of Chandler's teeth.

He attributed his strong play to being healthy again, after missing time this season with finger, ankle and knee injuries, and being motivated by the approaching playoffs.

"It's the end of the season, the last month. Everybody's fighting for spots. The playoffs are right around the corner," Anthony said. "This is the best basketball."

NOTES: The Knicks' Kenyon Martin missed his second straight game with a sore left knee. ... New York's 65 points matched the most given up by the Thunder in the first half this season. Denver had 65 in a 114-104 win at Oklahoma City on March 19. Houston's 122 points were the previous high allowed by the Thunder. ... Chandler was called for a technical foul in the fourth quarter when Nick Collison knocked the ball into his face in the process of fouling him and Chandler followed through to knock Collison to the floor. Collison left about 6 minutes later with a bloody nose from another play, after Anthony's first tip-in.

THE FACTS: New York's J.R. Smith drained two shots including a 3-pointer in the closing moments and the Knicks extended their winning streak to 12 games with a thrilling 125-120 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Smith finished with 22 points but it was the play of Carmelo Anthony that sealed things for New York. Anthony scored 36 points but it was the 12 rebounds he pulled down, nine of them off the offensive glass that put his team in position to win.

Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook led OKC with 37 points on 15-for-27 shooting he also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out eight assists, narrowly missing a triple-double. Kevin Durant added 27 on 7-for-17 from the floor but 13-for-15 from the free throw line. He also had seven assists and four blocked shots. With their performances today Anthony (28.41) takes over the NBA scoring lead from Durant (28.35). Thunder sixth man Kevin Martin added 15 on 5-for-7 shooting and Serge Ibaka and Reggie Jackson each finished with 13.

The Knicks had six players in double figures. In addition to Anthony and Smith, Raymond Felton scored 16 and center Tyson Chandler added 15. Jason Kidd came off the bench to score 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting including four 3-pointers and rookie Chris Copeland dropped in 13, all in the first half.

The Knicks bench scored 55 points the Thunder bench managed just 30. Both teams shot the ball well with Oklahoma City hitting 57.7 percent while New York hit 49.5 percent.

QUOTABLE: "J.R. has been solid all year, he's capable of hitting big shots. I was more impressed with how we held our composure. We just battled them from beginning to end. It was like an old school shootout with all the offense that was displayed."

THE STAT: New York pulled down 19 offensive rebounds and scored 23 second chance points. Eight of those offensive rebounds and eight of the second chance points came in the critical fourth quarter. OKC had just two offensive rebounds in the final 12 minutes and just two second chance points.

TURNING POINT: The Knicks went on a 10-2 run during a two minute stretch late in the third quarter that extended a one point lead out to nine but the Thunder stormed back with a 16-6 run in the fourth quarter that put them up 105-104. And they led again as late as 4:00 left when Westbrook hit a layup. But the Knicks went on a 10-3 run over the next 3:30 to ice the game.

HOT: Thunder start on a blistering pace going 7-for-8 (87.5 percent) in first eight minutes and finished the quarter 11-for-17 (64.7 percent)...Ibaka was 4-for-4 (nine points) and four blocks in the first eight minutes...Martin was 4-for-5 (12 points) in the first half...Kidd was 3-for-4 on 3-pointers in the first 24 minutes...Westbrook was 5-for-7 (11 points) in the fourth quarter.

NOT: Anthony was 2-for-7 (four points)...Durant did not take a shot in the first quarter but scored three points from the free throw line...Felton was 2-for-7 (five points) in the first half...Durant was 1-for-6 (five points) in the fourth quarter.

GOOD MOVE: With Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin out with injuries Woodson again gave big minutes to rookie Chris Copeland and he responded early going 5-for-7 (13 points) plus three assists in the first half.

BAD MOVE: The Thunder struggled to contain the Knicks offense in the first half, giving up 65 points (tying the OKC season-high for opponent scoring) and allowing the Knicks to shoot 51 percent overall and 52.6 percent on 3-pointers. The Thunder also couldn't keep New York off the offensive glass. The Knicks had eight offensive rebounds in the first 24 minutes.

GOOD MOVE-BAD MOVE: The Thunder held New York to just 39.1 percent shooting (9-for-23) in the fourth quarter and 28.6 percent (2-for-7) on 3-pointers in the fourth. But while the Thunder forced the Knicks to miss most of their first shots in possessions they failed to block out on rebounds and gave up eight offensive boards and allowed eight second chance points.

NOTABLE: New York now has 50 wins in a season for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Anthony now has four straight games with 35 or more points. He is the first Knick to do that since Bernard King in the 1984-85 season.
