The Denver Nuggets probably would have preferred having their home win streak snapped in their last game in exchange for a healthy Danilo Gallinari heading into the postseason.

The Nuggets will play their first contest since learning Gallinari will be out for the season when they look to match a franchise record with a 20th straight home victory and end the Houston Rockets' four-game win streak Saturday night in this matchup of short-handed, high-scoring clubs.

The versatile forward tore his left ACL in Thursday's 95-94 home win over Dallas. Gallinari planted his left leg awkwardly in the first half and Friday's MRI confirmed the Nuggets' fears of a serious injury that will require a long rehabilitation.

"We're extremely disappointed for Gallo. He was having a career year in scoring and rebounding and was a huge reason for our success," said Masai Ujiri, the Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations. "We will obviously support him and be there for him throughout his recovery."

Gallinari's loss is a major blow. He's second on Denver (52-24) with 16.2 points per game and has a team-high 135 3-pointers.

Corey Brewer replaced Gallinari in the lineup late in the first half and scored a game-high 23 points, adding three big plays in the final 19 seconds that helped Denver improve to a NBA-best 34-3 at home.

"It's going to be tough on us," Brewer said, "but we've got to just keep playing hard."

Denver can match its longest home win streak, set from Jan. 9-March 30, 1985.

The Nuggets have won three straight - all without Ty Lawson, averaging a team-high 16.7 points. The point guard is out indefinitely with a plantar fascia tear in his right foot.

Denver, third in the league in scoring at 105.6 points, has won six straight over Houston - the league's highest-scoring team at 106.1. Sweeping the four-game season series could be tricky without Lawson and Gallinari, who each averaged 19.3 points in the first three 2012-13 matchups.

James Harden leads all players with 19.7 points per game when these teams have met, and he will be the focal point as Houston (43-33) tries for its third five-game win streak of the season.

That will be even more the case since Rockets' second-leading scorer Chandler Parsons is expected to miss a second straight game with a right calf injury. Guard Carlos Delfino has missed the last two games, sitting out Friday's 116-98 victory at Portland with the flu.

Harden picked up the slack with 33 points in his second game back after missing two with a foot injury. Jeremy Lin had 22 points and eight assists, just missing a third straight double-double.

"We did a pretty good job of staying aggressive and taking the ball to the basket," Harden said. "We were getting in the paint and staying in attack mode."

Houston, which is 6-13 in the second half of back-to-back games, reduced its magic number to two for a playoff spot. It trails sixth-place Golden State by one game in the Western Conference standings.

Denver is in third place, one game ahead of Memphis and two in front of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Nuggets tie team mark with 20th straight home win

DENVER (AP) Showcasing their depth in stunning fashion, the Denver Nuggets rolled to a season high in points and matched a team record with a 20th consecutive home win despite missing their top two scorers because of injuries.

Corey Brewer had 22 points off the bench and Wilson Chandler scored 21 points in place of the injured Danilo Gallinari, leading the Nuggets past the Houston Rockets, 132-114 Saturday night.

Even Nuggets coach George Karl acknowledged some surprise over the dominant showing by his squad, playing for the first time since losing the sharp-shooting Gallinari to a season-ending left knee injury. Playmaking guard Ty Lawson, the Nuggets' leading scorer, is out indefinitely because of a plantar fascia tear in his right foot.

"It does a little bit," Karl conceded when asked if the team's showing without Gallinari and Lawson surprised him. "But my team has been very good about meeting challenges, both schedule-wise and injury-wise and perseverance-wise, and they have a competitive spirit that for a young team is pretty strong."

Andre Iguodala had 18 points and a season-high 14 assists, while Andre Miller added 11 points and 12 assists as Denver won its fourth in a row overall while improving to a league-best 35-3 at home.

"We have a very deep team and we have a lot of players step up. Basically the whole team stepped up," Chandler said.

The Nuggets, who also won 20 in a row at home from Jan. 9-March 30, 1985, fueled their fast-break offense with a relentless defense that forced 19 Houston turnovers, leading to 32 points.

"We jump them a lot, trap them a lot, and they turn it over and we get easy baskets," Brewer said. "We pride ourselves on playing fast, and when you get into this altitude, you can't play the way we play."

Said Karl: "I think we wore them out a little bit."

Jeremy Lin scored 23 points for the Rockets, who lost their seventh straight to the Nuggets, including all four this season. James Harden added 14 points for Houston, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

"When you play a team like Denver, who runs like we run, it has to be wise," Lin said. "We want to push the pace, but you have to push the pace conservatively, so we don't give them 20 to 50 points in transition. I think we can push the pace without being so loose with the ball.

"We're never going to play a perfect game, but to push the ball up the floor and get to our spots and play without throwing crazy passes, cross-court passes. They have length and taller wings, so we have to be smarter with how we push it."

Like Denver, Houston also was short-handed, playing without Carlos Delfino (flu) and Chandler Parsons (right calf strain).

But mistakes, rather than a shortage of depth, figured most prominently in the Rockets' loss, coach Kevin McHale said.

"I think throwing the ball to them was a bigger focal point," he said. "They had 32 points off our turnovers and 18 points off offensive rebounds. There's no defense for throwing them the ball for a layup. It's hard to overcome."

Up by eight at the half, the Nuggets opened a 102-83 lead going into the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rockets 13-5 in the last 2:34 of the third in a surge that featured the Nuggets' team depth. Evan Fournier, who had 17 points and was among seven Nuggets in double figures, hit a 3-pointer to start the run. He later drove the lane before passing behind his back to fellow reserve Anthony Randolph for a dunk.

By the time Brewer hit a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play on successive possessions midway through the fourth quarter, the Nuggets had the game in hand with a 118-90 lead. Denver substituted freely the rest of the way.

Chandler hit consecutive 3-pointers in the last 1:41 of the second quarter to give the Nuggets a 64-56 halftime lead.

Trailing 12-4 in the opening minutes, Houston hit four 3-pointers in a row, including consecutive baskets from beyond the arc by Francisco Garcia on the way to a 35-25 lead after the first quarter.

But Denver got back in it by running the floor, going on an 18-4 burst highlighted by a pair of rim-rattling dunks by JaVale McGee off feeds from Fournier to surge back in front.

NOTES: Delfino has missed the past three games because of illness and Houston has been without Parsons, the team's second-leading scorer, for the last two. ... The Nuggets' Lawson has missed the last four games and five of the past six because of the foot injury. ... Iguodala's double-double was his ninth of the season. ... The Nuggets' previous season high was 128 points against Chicago on Feb. 7. ... Denver also had a season-high 40 assists.

THE FACTS: Corey Brewer continued his hot play with 22 points, Andre Iguodala had 18 points and 14 assists and the Denver Nuggets won their franchise-tying 20th straight at home with a 132-114 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

Wilson Chandler scored 21 points in his first start for the injured Danilo Gallinari, who was lost to a torn ACL of his left knee in Thursday's win over Dallas.

Jeremy Lin had 23 points for the Rockets, who had their four-game winning streak stopped.

The Nuggets haven't lost at home since Jan. 18, but they haven't lost much at all lately. They have won four straight and 19 of 21 to move into third in the Western Conference with five games left.

THE STAT: The Rockets committed 85 turnovers in four games against Denver this year -- all losses.

TURNING POINT: The Nuggets got hot in the second quarter and never cooled off. After being down 35-25 in the first they outscored the Rockets 77-48 over the next two quarters to turn it into a rout.

HOT: The Nuggets set a season high in points and assists (40) despite not having their top two scorers in Ty Lawson and Gallinari. They keep pushing the pace and getting good results. Their depth showed through against Houston and could carry them for a while.

QUOTABLE III: "No one's going to feel sorry us. We're good enough and talented enough to continue playing well. People might be patient to figure it out a little bit, but we don't have a lot of time to figure it out."

NOT: The Rockets were hot from 3-point range in the first quarter, going 6-for-9 while leading by as many as 12. Over the next two quarters they were 3-for-14 and were blown out.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: The stat sheet rarely reflects the way Iguodala impacts a game, but it was hard to ignore his output against the Rockets. He set a season high in assists -- which was two shy of his career high -- while playing shutdown defense on James Harden.

GOOD MOVE: The Nuggets weren't afraid to challenge the Rockets to push the pace. Houston plays the same style but Denver feels it does it better, and it showed.

BAD MOVE: The Rockets couldn't handle Denver's pressure defense. They rushed passes, forced shots and got out of sync offensively.

ROOKIE WATCH: Evan Fournier looks like he'll stay in the rotation even when Lawson returns. He had 17 points and five assists and McHale credited his scrappy play as one reason the Nuggets turned things around in the second quarter. So far the rookie has looked unflappable as his minutes have increased.

NOTABLE: The Nuggets last won 20 straight Jan. 9-March 30, 1985. ... Rockets forward Chandler Parsons sat out his third game in the last four with a right calf injury. ... The Nuggets' 40 assists were the most since having 44 against Seattle on March 26, 2008.
