Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder were stunned by a Washington Wizards team without John Wall earlier this season.

They'll certainly be paying close attention to Wall on Wednesday night.

Coming off one of the best individual performances of the NBA season, Wall may need a similar offensive effort in Oklahoma City if the Wizards plan to pull off a surprising sweep of the Thunder.

Wall missed 33 games at the beginning of the season while recovering from a knee injury, the last of which was Washington's 101-99 win over Oklahoma City on Jan. 7. Bradley Beal and Martell Webster helped spur that upset, finishing with 22 points apiece as the Wizards (26-44) won for only the fifth time in their first 33 games.

Beal likely won't be available Wednesday due to a nagging sprained ankle that's kept him out of nine of the last 12 games, but Wall has certainly looked healthy of late. He had the best game of his three-year career Monday against Memphis, finishing with 47 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a 107-94 win.

"I was just in a zone. I made my first couple of shots and I knew I was in a great rhythm. Ten points in the first quarter, I knew I had it going," said Wall, who's averaged 21.8 points on 52.3 percent shooting in March.

Wall's performance was the Wizards' highest-scoring game since Antawn Jamison had 48 on April 17, 2007, and the NBA's third-most-productive individual scoring performance of the season.

Durant, who leads the NBA at 28.3 points per game, is No. 2 on that list thanks to a 52-point effort in Dallas on Jan. 18.

The Thunder (52-19) average 106.2 points to rank second in the league, but lately it's been their defense that's impressing coach Scott Brooks. Oklahoma City has held its last three opponents to 39.2 percent shooting, winning the past two while allowing an average of 86.0 points.

The Thunder trailed by two at halftime Sunday against Portland, but held the Trail Blazers to 31.0 percent shooting and 36 points in the final 24 minutes en route to a 103-83 win.

"You get extra opportunities because you're defending and you're rebounding and you're not giving them offensive rebounds," Brooks told the team's official website. "Not many teams want to run with us and we know we can play multiple styles, but we like to get out and run off of our defense.

"Our first three steps are pretty good and we want to continue to build on those habits. Offensively, we want to get out and run in transition."

These teams haven't faced each other in Oklahoma City in more than two years, with the last meeting a wild 124-117 Thunder win in two overtimes on Jan. 28, 2011. Durant led the way with 40 while Russell Westbrook had 35 points, 13 assists and 13 rebounds.

Wall shot 5 of 19 in that loss, but fared better the last time he saw the Thunder, scoring 25 points, dishing out eight assists and pulled down seven boards in a 105-102 win Jan. 18, 2012. Durant and Westbrook combined for 69 points.

The Thunder have averaged 113.0 points while winning the last three meetings in Oklahoma City. Durant had scored at least 32 in his previous five games against Washington before being held to 29 in January.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) If Kevin Durant has his heart set on a third straight NBA scoring title, you might ask why he took only 10 shots Wednesday against the Washington Wizards.

No worries. The Thunder's star player is always contributing.

Durant scored 20 points to lead an efficient offense in Oklahoma City's 103-80 rout of the Wizards, snapping a two-game losing streak to Washington.

The Thunder's so-called "Big Three" - Durant, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Martin - combined for 59 points on just 27 shots and the Thunder led by double digits for most of the second half.

Oklahoma City remains 1 1/2 games behind San Antonio for the top spot in the Western Conference after the Spurs held on to beat the Denver Nuggets 100-99.

"Shots are going to come around for me," Durant said. "Points are going to come around for me. It was balanced tonight. . Who cares? We won the basketball game. I'm happy for our guys coming out and responding after us losing to them."

Durant was the only Oklahoma City player to reach double figures in shots. Westbrook, who scored 21 points, did so on eight field goal attempts, while Martin, who had 18 points, took nine shots. Oklahoma City shot 46 percent from the field and went 37-of-41 from the free throw line, compared to 32.1 percent (21-of-29) for the Wizards.

Durant hit all 10 of his free throws and Westbrook was 10-of-11 at the line.

"When you don't have to take the ball out of the net, you get an opportunity to use your athleticism and get out in transition," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "We were really good with that. We're fast. Our first three steps can get down to half-court pretty quick and then we put pressure on the defense. It's all about defending. It's all about rebounding and getting out on the break."

Washington had taken its previous two games against Oklahoma City, winning the only meeting during the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season before a 101-99 victory in Washington on Jan. 7 - the second played without point guard John Wall.

Wall, coming off 47 points in a win over Memphis, overcame 3-of-18 shooting to finish with 18 points and 12 assists, but he had limited help. Numerous injuries and illness left the Wizards with only eight players in uniform.

Washington was missing Trevor Ariza (flu), Leandro Barbosa (torn left knee ligament), Bradley Beal (sprained left ankle), Nene (sore right knee), Martell Webster (abdominal strain) and A.J. Price (sort right groin).

"I was as proud of these guys tonight as I was our last game against Memphis," Washington coach Randy Wittman said. "It's not about your wins and losses. It's about how you play. We went out tonight with eight guys and a lot of our key guys down and we battled.

"We didn't have a good shooting night and this is a good team. If you get them to the free-throw line 41 times on top of that, it's hard to beat them."

The Thunder trailed briefly during the opening four minutes and the Wizards hung close for a while. Wall, despite shooting 1-of-11 from the field, still almost had a double-double by halftime, hitting eight of 11 free throws for 10 points to go with nine assists.

An early 8-0 run put Oklahoma City up 10-5 and the Thunder never trailed again. The Thunder built their lead to 45-34 after two free throws by Westbrook with 4:57 left in the first half and was up 53-45 at halftime. Westbrook had 15 points at halftime.

Consecutive 3-pointers by Westbrook and Thabo Sefolosha put Oklahoma City ahead 70-54 with 7:20 left in the third quarter and the Wizards never cut the margin to single digits the rest of the way.

"We just couldn't get anybody hot," Wittman said.

Oklahoma City has won nine of its last 10 home games and in the nine victories they've won by an average of 22 points.

"I like the way we're moving the ball," Durant said. "I like the way we're helping each other out on defense and talking. If we can keep that up no matter what, we'll be fine. Right now, I know we love to win basketball games, but it's about bettering our habits. There's 10 games left and we want to continue playing sound, solid defense, moving the ball on offense and going out there and wreaking havoc, getting steals and getting blocked shots and try to get some easy points."

Garrett Temple scored 13 points for the Wizards, while Cartier Martin and Kevin Seraphin each had 12 and Trevor Booker 10.

Kendrick Perkins had 11 rebounds for the Thunder and Emeka Okafor grabbed 10.

Notes: Among those in attendance was Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford, who had one of the nation's top freshmen this season in Marcus Smart. Smart hasn't declared yet if he'll enter the upcoming NBA draft. Ford spoke briefly with Thunder general manager Sam Presti . Wittman, an Indiana product, was critical of former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson before the game. When asked about the Hoosiers' success thus far in the NCAA tournament, Wittman called it `'really gratifying" and said Indiana has recovered from NCAA sanctions imposed for violations that occurred during Sampson's time as coach. Wittman said Indiana had `'a rich tradition that was built up over 30, 40, 50 years and in the matter of 18 months, it was torn completely down." Sampson is now an assistant coach with the Houston Rockets . Washington has won 14 games this season against Western Conference foes, the most for the Wizards since winning 14 during the 2006-07 season . The Thunder recorded their 51st straight regular-season sellout at Chesapeake Energy Arena, with 37 of those this season . Backup guard Derek Fisher scored two points in 14 minutes of action for Oklahoma City, his first points in five games.

THE FACTS: It wasn't particularly pretty but the Oklahoma City Thunder used a suffocating defensive effort to beat the Washington Wizards for the first time in two seasons, 103-80. The Thunder finished with three players in double figures. Point guard Russell Westbrook led the way with 21 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Westbrook was also 10-for-11 at the free throw line. Kevin Durant was right behind with 20 points and 10-for-10 at the stripe. Durant struggled from the floor though going 4-for-10. Sixth man Kevin Martin had a big night with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers.

The Thunder hadn't beaten Washington since 2011. The teams played only once last season (a Wizards win) and Washington won the first game between the two this season.

Washington was playing short-handed again and couldn't get anything going on offense. John Wall, coming off a career-high 47 points on Monday night, managed just 18 against OKC. Most of those points came at the free throw line where Wall was 12-for-15. The Thunder defense held Wall to just 3-for-18 from the floor. Guard Garrett Temple finished with 13 points and Cartier Martin and Kevin Seraphin came off the bench to score a dozen each.

The Wizards played with just half a team. Seven players were either out sick or injured. Leandro Barbosa has been out since February with a knee injury. Bradley Beal (ankle) and A.J. Price (groin) couldn't go and even though there were hopes that Nene (knee), Martell Webster (abdominal strain), and Trevor Ariza (flu) might have been able to play they were put back on the shelf just before game time along with Jason Collins who came down with the flu this afternoon.

The Thunder dominated on defense holding Washington to just 32.1 percent shooting for the game and allowing the Wizards to score only 35 points in the entire second half.

QUOTABLE: "The defense was the game tonight. We really contested their shots. We wanted to make sure Wall didn't get any easy shots, we had multiple guys working on him tonight. With us it's all about defending, rebounding and getting out on the break."

THE STAT: The Wizards actually got the best of the Thunder in some key areas, outrebounding them 43-41, 16 of those rebounds came off the offensive glass and Washington dominated in second-chance points.outscoring the Thunder by a whopping 21-2 margin. But the Thunder hit two more field goals than Washington while taking 21 fewer shots. OKC also scored 16 more points at the free throw line, going 37-for-41 (90.2 percent) while the Wizards were just 21-for-29 (72.4 percent).

TURNING POINT: The Thunder kept the Wizards at arm's length all night and used a big third quarter to push the lead out to 17 points. Brooks allowed his second unit to start the fourth quarter before bringing his starters back in halfway through the fourth to finish things off.

QUOTABLE II: "We just couldn't get anybody hot. We hovered in the low 30s shooting all night. I was as proud of these guys tonight as I was in our last game against Memphis. It's not about wins and losses it's about how we play and we went out tonight with eight guys able to play and we battled."

HOT: The Thunder got off to a blistering start, shooting 62.5 percent (10-for-16) in the first quarter. ... Westbrook was 4-for-6 (15 points) in the first half. ... OKC was 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) on 3-pointers in the second half.

NOT: The Wizards couldn't shoot straight to begin the game, going just 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) in the first quarter. ... That percentage had improved only slightly (30.4) by halftime. ... Wall was just 1- for-11 (10 points) in the first half. He did most of his damage at the free throw line where he was 8-for-11 in the first 24 minutes. ... Ibaka was 0-for-5 (three points) in the half. ... The Wizards were 1-for-9 (11.1 percent) on 3-pointers in the second half.

INSIDE THE ARENA: The 103rd consecutive sell-out inside Chesapeake Energy Arena. It was also Military Appreciation Night and the Thunder distributed 500 tickets to active duty personnel and their families. The team also gave special recognition to six Oklahoma National Guardsmen. Three of the soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan and the three others were severely wounded and lost limbs.

GOOD MOVE: Wall managed to get OKC's top two point guards in foul trouble in the first quarter. Westbrook picked up his second foul trying to guard Wall before three minutes had come off the clock. Backup point guard Reggie Jackson spelled Westbrook and picked up his second foul six minutes later.

GOOD MOVE TOO: The Thunder made it Job One to control Wall and in the first half they forced him to take some bad shots and he finished just 1-for-11. However, he handed out nine assists and went to the line 11 times. Wall finished at just 3-for-18.

NOTABLE: For the first time this season Oklahoma City has held four straight opponents to 90 or fewer points.
