The Milwaukee Bucks have been playing much better on the road lately.

The Washington Wizards have definitely been a much more dangerous team in the nation's capital.

Milwaukee goes for its fifth road win in six tries on Wednesday night while the Wizards look for a 13th victory in their last 17 home games.

Back from a 2-1 Western road trip, the Bucks (32-30) lost for just the second time in eight games on Tuesday, 115-108 to Dallas.

Milwaukee still owns a commanding eight-game lead over Toronto for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but it missed a chance to make up ground on the two teams it's chasing - Boston and Atlanta, which both lost on Tuesday.

"Every time you lose a game now being in the position we are in, it has significance," coach Jim Boylan said. "We are trying to climb up and because we are trying to secure our spot, it definitely stings a little bit."

Milwaukee opens a stretch of eight of 11 at home on Friday against league-best Miami, but first it'll look for a fourth win in its last five trips to the nation's capital.

The Bucks took advantage of the absence of John Wall and Nene to win 101-91 there on Nov. 9, but Washington (20-42) got revenge with those two back Feb. 11. Nene had 21 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in the Wizards' 102-90 win at the Bradley Center.

Rookie Bradley Beal led Washington with 28 points in that game after scoring a team-best 22 on Nov. 9, but the third overall pick is expected to miss a fifth consecutive game Wednesday with a sprained left ankle. Garrett Temple has started the last two in Beal's absence, totaling four points, five turnovers and nine fouls in 44 minutes.

"It could be a day. It could be a week (when Beal returns)," said coach Randy Wittman, whose team fell to a league-worst 5-25 on the road with Tuesday's 95-90 loss to Cleveland. "We'll just have to wait and see."

With or without Beal, the Wizards have a chance to continue their much-improve play at home.

Another big game from Wall would help. The third-year point guard had one of the best all-around offensive performances of his career on Tuesday, setting season highs with 27 points and 14 assists while matching his best rebounding effort of 2012-13 with seven.

Wall scored 14 points with 10 assists in last month's meeting, but he's shooting just 35.2 percent in his career versus Milwaukee - his worst against any East opponent.

Wall and the rest of the Wizards' backcourt also need to be prepared to work on defense, as Bucks guard Monta Ellis is riding his best offensive stretch of the season. He's scored 27.6 points per game - 8.3 more that his season average - in the last seven.

Ellis has averaged 23.5 points on 50 percent shooting in four games against Washington since joining Milwaukee.

Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings, who matched a season low with four points on Tuesday, has averaged 15.8 points in that same stretch against the Wizards - including a 3-for-17 shooting, seven-point effort in February.

Jennings was also ejected for the first time in his career in the November meeting for shoving Beal, who was tossed for knocking down Ellis on a breakaway in the final minute.

Wall helps Wizards hold off Bucks

WASHINGTON (AP) John Wall had 23 points and 10 assists, and the Washington Wizards beat the Milwaukee Bucks 106-93 Wednesday night.

Wall and Wizards coach Randy Wittman appeared to exchange unpleasant words during a timeout late in the third quarter, but Wall rallied with eight fourth-quarter points to hold off the Bucks' comeback.

It was Wall's seventh double-double of the season. He also added six rebounds and four steals.

The Wizards (21-42) have won three straight home games and eight of 11 in Washington.

Monta Ellis scored 26 points for the Bucks (32-31).

Martell Webster scored 20 points, his third straight game with at least 17. Nene had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Trevor Booker had 13 points and 12 boards. Garrett Temple added 13 points.

Trevor Ariza (knee) was a game-time decision, but he scored 14 points in 30 minutes.

Ersan Ilyasova posted 21 points and 12 rebounds for Milwaukee.

Larry Sanders had 17 points and 11 rebounds before being ejected late in the fourth quarter. Sanders committed an offensive foul with 2:45 left and received two technical fouls while arguing the call.

J.J. Redick scored 16 points, and Brandon Jennings added eight points and 10 assists.

Led by Webster's 13 points, the Wizards had a 30-21 advantage after the first quarter. A 14-0 run expanded Washington's lead to 54-35 in the second quarter.

The Wizards led by 20 points in third quarter, then opened the fourth with a 7-0 run before pulling away.

The Wizards played without Bradley Beal, who missed his fifth straight game with a sprained left ankle.

Beal led the Wizards in points during the teams' first two matchups this season, scoring 22 in a November loss and 28 in a February win.

Notes: Luc Mbah a Moute (turf toe) didn't travel with the Bucks. Mbah a Moute, who averages 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game, also missed Milwaukee's game Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks. . A.J. Price (hamstring, groin) did not play. ... With multiple guards injured, Wittman was asked about the possibility of adding another guard. The Wizards have a full roster of 15 players, but Leandro Barbosa (left knee) is out for the season and could be bought out. "We'll look into it," Wittman said. . The Bucks traded for Redick, Gustavo Ayon and Ish Smith at the NBA trade deadline. "One of the problems with making trades like that is just the fact that you can't get everybody up to speed as quickly as you would like," Milwaukee coach Jim Boylan said. "You have to do it on the fly, and it's not easy." . The Bucks played at the Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings before returning home to play the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Boylan noted how difficult the first game after a road trip can be. "So what the NBA did was they sent back out on the road again, so that should take care of that problem," Boylan said. "They sent us to the East Coast, so we can enjoy every time zone that America has to offer."

THE FACTS: John Wall tallied 23 points and 10 assists as the Washington Wizards let a 20-point, second half lead slip away but hung tough for a 106-93 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

After leading 66-46 early in the third quarter, the Wizards (21-42) found themselves on the wrong end of a 32-9 run and entered the fourth period trailing 78-75. Even with momentum now on the Bucks' side, Washington scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter in what turned into an 18-6 spurt.

Six Wizards scored in double figures, including Martell Webster with 20 and Trevor Ariza with 14. Nene had 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Trevor Booker set season-highs with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Webster scored 17 and went 3-for-4 on 3-pointers in the first half as Washington used a 14-0 second quarter run to lead 60-44 at halftime.

Monta Ellis paced the Bucks (32-31) with 26 points. Ersan Ilyasova had 12 of his 21 points during the Milwaukee's third quarter rally and grabbed 12 rebounds. The Bucks missed 11 of his 17 shots in the fourth quarter en route to their second straight loss.

QUOTABLE: "Like coach [Randy Wittman] said, 'We basically won the game twice.'"

THE STAT: The Wizards scored at least 30 points in all but the second quarter, including 31 in the fourth as they outscored the Bucks by 16. Washington shot 50 percent from the field and made half of its 16 3-point tries.

QUOTABLE II: "Just a terrible game. We made our run, but we shouldn't have been in that position anyway."

HOT: Wall picked up his second double-double in as many games after finishing with 27 points,14 assists in Monday's road loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over the last five games -- all played without his back-court partner Bradley Beal -- Wall is averaging 19.6 points and eight assists.

NOT: After averaging 17 points over his last two games, including one as a starter, Bucks forward Mike Dunleavy played a 26 scoreless minutes, missing all six of his field goal attempts.

GOOD MOVE: With Beal and A.J. Price (sore right groin) out, Wall and Temple were the only true guards on Washington's roster. Rather than get cute and play others for long stretches in the backcourt, Wizards coach Randy Wittman stuck with his two starters for over 41 minutes each. Temple made 6 of his 7 shots and scored 13 points. Combined, the pair had 14 assists with only four turnover while making 16 of their 26 field goal attempts.

QUOTABLE III: "Just being more aggressive and taking better shots than what I was taking," Wall said of the recent uptick in production. "Just give credit to me working harder with [assistant coach] Sam [Cassell] on my jump shot, those type of things."

NOTABLE: Wall and Wittman were seen arguing late in the third quarter. Both later blew off any issue, describing the matter as the two trying to figure out how to stop Ilyasova. "Oh, that's coaching. C'mon," Wittman said emphatically. "I love that." ... Larry Sanders finished 17 points and 11 rebounds before being ejected late in the fourth quarter after picking up two technical fouls. ... J.J. Redick scored 16 for the Bucks. ... Ariza was a game-time decision with a sore left knee, but ended up playing 30 minutes.
