For all the struggles the Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings have experienced, their most recent performances proved that teams should think twice about taking either of them lightly.

Sacramento looks to avoid a 10th straight road loss Wednesday night by earning its first season sweep of Orlando in nine years.

The Kings (19-39) entered Tuesday having dropped the first two on their five-game road trip and 13 of their last 16 contests overall, but they pushed defending champion Miami to the brink before fading in a 141-129 double-overtime loss.

It marked the sixth straight defeat for Sacramento, though there were plenty of positive signs in this one. Marcus Thornton scored 36 points off the bench, Tyreke Evans finished with 26 and DeMarcus Cousins added 24 and 15 rebounds.

"It's tough but this is a loss I consider a good loss," said Cousins, who's averaged 22.0 points and 12.6 rebounds in his last three games. "Our effort was incredible. We come out and play like that every night, we can beat a lot of teams."

Thornton agreed.

"To be able to take that team to two overtimes just shows the testament of us growing," Thornton said, "A team like that - championship team - they play great together. Obviously I hate losing but it was a great effort by us."

Though the Kings have averaged 105.8 points during their losing streak, they've allowed an average of 118.7 per game. They rank last in the league by yielding 104.9 points per game.

"We had every opportunity to win that game but it didn't fall our way this time," coach Keith Smart said. "We had a game where (LeBron James and Dwyane Wade) had to get 40 and 39 points to put us away and I thought our guys stayed right there on the number."

Orlando has been dealing with its own struggles, having lost 28 of its previous 31 before scoring its most points in more than two weeks in a 98-84 win at Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The Magic (16-41) ended a five-game losing streak, during which they were outscored by an average of 18.0 points, as Arron Afflalo and Tobias Harris scored 16 points apiece.

"I like that we were poised," coach Jacque Vaughn said. "We didn't crumble."

Rookie Maurice Harkless scored 10 points and is averaging 15.4 over his last five games. He averaged 4.8 points in his previous 46 contests.

"It feels great," Harkless said. "Guys feel good about themselves and it shows what hard work can do. There are a lot of smiles around here for a change.

"We worked so hard for this and we hoped it would come. It's just a great win and I'm happy for our whole team."

Though the Kings haven't won on the road since beating Washington 96-94 on Jan. 28, Orlando has lost 14 of its last 16 at home.

Sacramento will be going for its first season sweep of the Magic since 2003-04 after Cousins scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 91-82 win Dec. 7.

Orlando shot only 37.5 percent in that contest while scoring the second-fewest points of any Sacramento opponent this season.

The Magic, averaging 87.3 points during a three-game home losing streak, had won seven of the previous eight meetings with the Kings.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) If the Sacramento Kings were at all tired after their marathon loss to Miami on Tuesday night, it didn't show.

John Salmons had 21 points to lead six players in double-figures, helping the hot-shooting Sacramento Kings cruise to a 125-101 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

The Kings were coming off a double-overtime loss to the Heat, but showed few signs of a hangover, knocking down 10 3-pointers and shooting 54 percent (46 of 84) for the night. They also shared the ball, finishing with 31 assists.

Reserve Marcus Thornton added 20 points, leading a bench that produced 64 points.

"When we play the type of basketball that we played tonight, we're a tough team to beat, and the night before as well," Kings' center DeMarcus Cousins said. "These past two nights are probably the best basketball we played all season."

The win ends a six-game losing streak and snaps a string of nine consecutive road losses. It also marks the Kings' first season sweep of the Magic in nine years.

It's just a speck on what has been a dismal year, but was still a night Sacramento coach Keith Smart hopes his team files away for future reference.

"The problem with our team is that when they give up on who succeeds and allow the team to function first, they've been able to play and compete against everyone," he said. "It all comes down to if our guys can be selfless and give themselves up."

Tobias Harris led the Magic with a career-high 23 points, followed by Arron Afflalo with 15.

Orlando has lost 29 of its last 33 games and still hasn't won back-to-back games since mid-December.

The Kings led by as many as 33 in the second half and didn't let up until late, as their field goal percentage hovered near 60 percent.

They also took care of the ball, committing no turnovers in the third quarter.

Orlando was a step behind throughout with 18 turnovers that led to 20 Sacramento points.

"At the end of the day the games' about wins and losses," Magic forward Al Harrington said. "We wanted to win. Unfortunately we ran into a hot team. They make a lot of jump shots, when we tried to get adjusted to that they made a layup. Just one of those nights when we couldn't get a stop."

The Kings started a little sluggish before ending the first quarter on a 29-9 run to take a 14-point lead into the second.

The momentum carried over as Sacramento led by as many 25 points and was up a comfortable 67-44 at halftime.

Sacramento had five players in double-figures by the break and hit shots from everywhere, shooting 62 percent in the half (28 for 45). The Kings also got several runouts that led to easy fast-break points. The Magic came in at just 35 percent (15 of 42).

"We've had stretches like this earlier in the season, where we're moving the ball ... then we kind of take a step back," Salmons said. "Just have to stay consistent on moving the ball like we have been doing. We need to focus on our defense and give ourselves a chance."

Orlando has little time to stew over its latest poor effort, though, hosting Houston on Friday.

Magic coach Jacque Vaughn refused to give his team a pass for its shortcomings, despite playing six games in just nine nights.

"That's part of the NBA," he said. "There's a bunch of guys in that locker room where they haven't played six games in nine nights before. So this is new and the thing is to learn from is so when it happens the next time we're better."

NOTES: Magic PG Jameer Nelson missed his fourth straight game with a left patella contusion. ... Smart said that C Cole Aldrich, who was acquired as part of the Houston trade last week, is expected to join the team Friday when Sacramento ends its current five-game road trip in San Antonio. He has been finishing up some medical testing. ... Orlando dropped to 2-8 in the second game of back-to-backs this season.

THE FACTS: Twenty-four hours after taking the Heat into double overtime in Miami, the Sacramento Kings went up the road and dropped 67 points on the Orlando Magic in the first half, breaking a six-game losing streak in a 125-101 rout.

John Salmons scored 21 points in just 22 minutes, and the Kings got 64 points from their bench, including 20 more from Marcus Thornton. Thornton's 36 points against the Heat had set an NBA season high for a non-starter.

In only his third game with the Magic, Tobias Harris came off the bench with a game-high and career-high 23 points, but the Magic lost by 24 points or more at home for the fifth time this season.

QUOTABLE: "Before the game I was feeling kind of sluggish. Then we got to running and the blood was flowing so I felt good. It was good that we were able to come out with that kind of energy."

THE STAT: Ranked 23rd in the NBA in field goal percentage, the Kings shot 62 percent in the first half and 54 percent for the game.

TURNING POINT: A driving layup by Tyreke Evans started an 18-3 Kings run over a four-minute stretch of the first quarter, putting Sacramento in command. The margin was never under 13 in the final three quarters, and Sacramento led by 33 at one point.

HOT: Thornton has scored 56 points in two games.

NOT: Magic center Nik Vucevic followed his 19-rebound effort at Philadelphia with four points and two rebounds, the latter a season low.

GOOD MOVE: No Kings' starter played as many as 27 minutes in a game that was essentially over by halftime.

BAD MOVE: E'Twaun Moore drained three 3-pointers that spotted the Magic a six-point lead early in the first quart, but was replaced in the normal substitution pattern. The game got away from the Magic almost immediately.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Harris has scored 14, 16 and 23 points in three games since coming to the Magic in the J.J. Redick trade. He might be able to put up numbers on a team going nowhere.

ROOKIE WATCH: The Magic's four rookies combined for 31 points, 12 of them by starting forward Maurice Harkless.

NOTABLE: The Magic became the sixth NBA team in this century to lose five home games by 24 or more points. ... The Kings have scored 100 points in eight of their last nine games. ... The Magic have not won two straight since Dec. 17-19. ... Magic guard Jameer Nelson missed a fifth game with a patella contusion.
