Carmelo Anthony is red hot, but his recent efforts haven't always translated into wins for the New York Knicks.

Anthony will try to continue doing his part as the Atlantic Division-leading Knicks attempt to head into the All-Star break on a positive note Wednesday night when they host the improving Toronto Raptors.

Anthony is tied with Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant for the NBA scoring lead at 29.0 points per game, and he'll join Tyson Chandler in representing the Knicks (32-17) at Sunday's All-Star game in Houston.

He's been even better over the last three games, averaging 36.3 points on 49.3 percent shooting. However, New York has lost two of those games following a five-game winning streak.

The Knicks failed to capitalize on another big effort from Anthony on Sunday, when he had 42 points while only one other member of the team reached double figures in a 102-88 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Anthony, though, only managed one basket in the fourth quarter as New York was outscored 31-18.

"There's four other guys on the basketball court, we've just got to make plays and we've been doing that all season long," Anthony said. "(Sunday), we didn't make plays in the fourth quarter and we didn't win the game."

One of Anthony's teammates looking for improvement is J.R. Smith, who is second on the team with 16.0 points per game but finished with six Sunday while missing eight of nine field-goal attempts.

After not facing the Raptors (20-32) yet this season, New York will see them four times in their next 19 games. Seemingly every Knick struggled in the most recent meeting on March 23, when Anthony had 17 points while Smith managed seven and Chandler two in a 96-79 road loss.

Offense hasn't been a problem when hosting the Raptors, as the Knicks have won three of four while averaging 116.7 points on 51.2 percent shooting - 43.8 from beyond the arc - in the victories.

Toronto is at the bottom of the Atlantic, but the club is on a three-game winning streak, matching its total from the previous 13 contests.

The biggest change has been the addition of Rudy Gay, who is averaging 22.3 points in six games since being acquired from Memphis in a three-team deal on Jan. 30.

"He's a big time player," coach Dwane Casey said. "He's a closer."

The forward has proved that by sinking the winning shot in two of the last three games, including the go-ahead pull-up jumper with five seconds left in Tuesday's 109-108 victory over Denver. However, only four of Gay's 17 points came after the first quarter, and he spent long stretches of the second half stuck on the bench with foul trouble.

"It just feels good to get a win," Gay said. "Obviously it's a not a game I'm proud of, but I'm proud to get this win."

He's averaging 23.7 points over his last three visits to Madison Square Garden.

This trip will be Landry Fields' first since spending his first two seasons with the Knicks. The reserve swingman is averaging 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds with the Raptors, who signed him to a three-year, $20 million offer sheet that New York didn't match.

Raptors beat Knicks 92-88 for 4th straight win

NEW YORK (AP) No big shots from Rudy Gay on this night. He hardly made any shots at all.

Neither did Carmelo Anthony, bothered by what he called a dead arm after being hit in the biceps early in the game.

Toronto won the battle of supporting casts, and the game.

Reserve Alan Anderson scored 26 points in one of the few good offensive performances for either team, and the Raptors beat the New York Knicks 92-88 on Wednesday night for their fourth straight victory.

DeMar DeRozan added 20 points for the Raptors, who overcame a 4-for-21 performance from Gay because Anthony was just as bad.

"It feels good, the fact that my teammate Double-A stepped up. And DeMar does what DeMar does," Gay said. "But on a night where I couldn't throw a fish in the water, it feels good to still get a win."

Anthony finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds but shot 5 of 24 for the Knicks, who dropped their final two games leading into the All-Star break.

"He got hurt early in the game, he caught an elbow to his biceps and he really couldn't shoot the ball the way he really wanted to," J.R. Smith said. "I think that affected our game because we're not used to seeing Melo go through slumps like that, but at the same time we've still got to play defense."

Smith led the Knicks with 26 points. Raymond Felton had 16 but shot 3 of 9, while Amare Stoudemire was 4 of 13 and had one particularly ghastly miss from right at the basket on his way to 10 points.

Anthony said he was hurt early in the game when he was hit by DeRozan's elbow, causing a deep contusion that caused numbness. He said he will wait to see how it feels before determining if he can start as scheduled in Sunday's All-Star game.

Gay finished with 11 points one night after hitting the go-ahead basket with 4.9 seconds left in a victory over Denver. That was his second such basket in three games since his trade from Memphis, but the Raptors had to look elsewhere this time for someone to pick them up in a game that was poorly played and poorly officiated.

They found it in Anderson, who finished a point shy of his career high.

"Rudy's a gamer," Anderson said. "Any time, any second in a game he can get off and start running buckets off. Once teams try to focus on him, that opens up for me, DeMar, everybody."

Kyle Lowry and John Lucas III both had 12 points, Lucas playing most of the second half after Lowry was ejected.

The Knicks shot 35 percent and settled for an ugly finish to their best first half in 16 years. They lost three of their final four games and take a 32-18 mark to the All-Star break.

It's the first time the Knicks have had 30 wins before the break since the 1996-97 season - well beyond the usual expectations, since they never won more than 33 in an entire season from 2004-05 through 2009-10.

But this was a disappointing effort, blowing a double-digit lead at home against a sub-.500 team that was playing on the second of back-to-back nights.

"I really can't pinpoint it. We just haven't been playing our game the way we know how to play offensively, some games it's defensively," Anthony said. "We seem that we can't put a whole 48 minutes together the last couple of games."

The biggest problem was Anthony, who scored 42 points Sunday against the Clippers in his fifth 40-point game of the season. He looked frustrated and lethargic at times, and just couldn't make anything even when he appeared into the game.

"As a team, we concentrated on him, made sure we close out," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "We did a good job of sprinting out."

The Knicks led 18-14 after one, then scored 10 straight midway through the second to take a 38-27 lead. Toronto cut it to five at halftime, then outscored New York 28-18 during a marathon third quarter, when five technical fouls were called.

Lowry picked up two of them for arguing and was ejected.

The Knicks were 4 for 21 (19 percent) in the third and made only 9 of 16 at the free throw line.

Notes: The Raptors made a late change to the starting lineup, inserting former Knicks guard Landry Fields so he could defend Anthony. Fields received mostly polite cheers, with some boos sprinkled in. ... Former Knicks center Patrick Ewing, the franchise's career scoring leader, sat next to Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, the Knicks owner. ... Lowry was ejected for the first time in his career.

THE FACTS: The Raptors shot 4-for-19 in the first quarter but finished the game at 42.5 percent en route to a 92-88 victory over the Knicks on Wednesday night.

For the Raptors, it was their fifth win in seven games since Rudy Gay joined the team. Gay struggled, going 4-for-21 from the floor for 11 points but he scored five points in the fourth quarter and made three free throws down the stretch to help Toronto hold onto the win.

Carmelo Anthony grabbed 12 rebounds and Tyson Chandler grabbed nine as the Knicks outrebounded the Raptors 52-35.

J.R. Smith finished with 26 points to lead the Knicks. This is the seventh time this season Smith has led the team in scoring.

The Knicks enter the All-Star break having lost three of their last four but remain atop the Atlantic Division.

THE STAT: The Raptors shot 21-for-24 from the free-throw line. DeMar DeRozan was 10-for-10.

TURNING POINT: It was 55-55 with 2:51 in the third quarter when Kyle Lowry got called for his second technical foul and was replaced by John Lucas III, who promptly knocked down a 3-pointer. The Raptors extended their lead to as many as nine points following the Lowry ejection and never allowed the Knicks to get closer than 83-80 when Anthony hit a three.
