MKG Joins Elite Group
THE RESULT
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist put his name in the NBA record books with another 25-point, 12-rebound performance in Charlotte’s 121-104 loss on December 19 in Phoenix. MKG joined LeBron James as the only two players in NBA history to post those numbers twice before their 20th birthday. Kemba Walker added a team-high 27 points for the Cats.

TURNING POINTS
After seeing eight lead changes and four ties, the Cats trailed just 28-27 after the first quarter. Kemba Walker (eight points) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (six points) kept the Bobcats in the game by attacking the Suns at the rim… Charlotte was outscored 36-19 in the decisive second quarter after hitting 20.0 percent (3-for-15) of their shots in the frame… The cause of the Suns run can be attributed to the play of both benches in the first half. Phoenix’s reserves outscored the Cats, 34-4, in the first 24 minutes, led by 11 points (including three treys) from Sebastian Telfair… The Bobcats bench production wouldn’t get much better in the second half, as the reserves didn’t record their sixth point until Brendan Haywood’s bucket cut the Suns lead to 81-60 with six minutes to go in the third… Charlotte’s small lineup of Walker, Kidd-Gilchrist, Ben Gordon, Jeffery Taylor and Mullens made things interesting in the fourth as the Cats turned a 30-point deficit into 14 and outscored the Suns, 36-24.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Through the first two-and-a-half quarters, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (19 points), Kemba Walker (16) and Byron Mullens (13) accounted for 82.8 percent of the Cats offense as Charlotte fell behind, 81-58. The three combined to go 16-for-28 (57.1 percent) from the field, while the rest of the squad shot 5-for-22 (22.7 percent)… Turnovers cost the Cats, as they coughed it up 17 times leading to 22 Phoenix points. The Suns had 11 turnovers leading to 11 Bobcats points… The Suns were white hot from long range, connecting on 17 treys in 28 attempts (60.7 percent). Charlotte also shot 60.0 percent from long range but in less volume (6-for-10)
